Evaluation

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have created a WordItOut on the key conventions of a trailer, magazine and poster. I have followed these throughout my promotional package.
Here is my magazine wordle.
Here is my trailer wordle.

 Here is my poster wordle.

Below I have created two thinglink's on both my magazine and poster explaining what I have used in my media products to make them like real ones.

Below I have created a padlet on my trailer commenting on wha ways my product uses develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products. I have explained about why I used setting, the title and the storyline of my trailer.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I have used Piktochart to explain how all three parts of my promotional package use brand identity to create an effective cohesive package.

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I showed the draft version of my trailer to my A Level Media class for my original part of feedback. By doing this I could then know what I could do to improve my final trailer. This was therefore helpful as after this I felt like I had a clearer understanding of what more I needed to do. My class was of 5 people and they gave me 3 what worked well and 3 even better ifs. Below I have attached my feedback which I have made into a 'smore'.

I have also collected some research and created a 'slideshare' for each person on the feedback I have received for all 3 stages of my promotional package, I specifically asked 16-25 year olds who like horrors as this is my target audience.

My key learning point from this is that I needed to improve my work to make the whole promotional package more effective and appeal to the target audience. From the feedback I received I also learnt how to make the horror genre distinctive throughout the whole cohesive package and things I could add and change throughout. Below is the differences and improvements I made marked with arrows from the draft and final of my magazine and poster due to the feedback I received on them.

This video explains the feedback I had from my final film trailer after showing it to a group of my target audience.

4. How did you use new media technologies in the research, planning, construction and evaluation stages?

This video below explains how I used the research section of the blog.

The video below explains the planning section of my blog.

In this video below I explain how I constructed my promotional package.

Below I have made a video explaining about how I used the Photoshop tools and why I used them.

Here I have made a video about the multimedia tools that I have used throughout my blog.

Film Magazine Planning

Above is a WordItOut that I have created to show the key conventions of a film magazine. Below I have created a Piktochart which is showing how I have planned my magazine so that I know what I am going to include on it when I made it and what I need to include so it is like a magazine.

Construction Work

I have completed my draft trailer and to accompany this I have done some focus group feedback.

Below is my draft version for my trailer.

In this feedback I was told that the lighting was too light because it didn't reflect the horror genre. I was also told to consider adding dialogue to help explain the narrative of my trailer more clearly as it the moment it is very unclear. Another point was to add more shot angles for example a high angle shot as these look effective and makes it seem more like an actual trailer. I was also told I needed more shots of the key protagonist (the person who is possessed) as this is an important convention of a film trailer and would make my film a lot more 'scarier' to the audience.

To help me make these changes I contacted Tim a media technition helped me with the lighting aspect and showed me to change the lighting using premier pro, I did this by changing the tint and colour balance which made it darker and look more eery as it is now darker so fits the genre better. When I next went filming for the trailer I filmed each shot I took in a variety of angles so that I then had more variety of shots as this was a key point that my focus group said.

The key learning point is that I need to use music tech to help me import some sound effects and also add dialogue into my trailer to make the narrative more clear and shows more of the generic codes for horror films (screams).

After Effects

In lesson we had a tutorial on after effects leaning all about what we need to do and how we do it so we can use this software when creating our trailers. We went through things such as positioning text and how to do that aswell as editing the size of the text, for example, from smaller to larger gradually over a period of time. As well as changing the colours of fonts. We also looked at using effects and presets on text or images this was important as this is where I found the special effect I want to use in my trailer which was Bad TV 2- old as shown in the image below. Whilst creating a example composition using text and effects, doing this we then learnt how to add different layers.

Film Poster Planning

This is my final decision on what font I will be using and I have used the below posters to help me decide this as I found that looking at actual horror posters would show me the types of fonts I should consider using.

I like these two serif fonts as they are clear and bold fonts used in these posters, however they both have a interesting element too them like the line going through the middle or the 'blood splatter' type look which adds an edge, mine has this from the fact it looks abit like where it is set in a forest as it has a bark type effect to it.

Colour Scheme
This is what I have created on AdobeKuler to show what colours I am going to use on my posted, I have used dark colours like black and contrasted this with white, I have them implemented a bright red colour as this is the colour I think is most remindful of my genre of horror as its the same colour as e.g. blood.

Above is the flat plan which I have created for my film poster so I know what I want it to look like and have planned it ready to create properly on Photoshop.

Titles and Font Styles

Art of The Title
DaFont
I considered the below name 'Unkown' aswell as 'Curse' however asking a small group of people I decided that from the most popular answer being 'Curse' which I have now changed slightly to 'The Curse' due to secondary research of other horror films, would be the best option to my film as it fits the best with the actual plot of my story being the fact that someone is cursed.
I considered the font above as I looked in the horror section of dafont.com and I like theis font because it is bold but edgey and other posters I looked at had used text like this however I decide that it wasnt right for my poster as I wanted a simple posted which is going to look very clear.
I have used finally decided to use the 'I Still Know' font because I like the bold, clear serif font that is used and think it still has a 'horror' like feel to it. I have looked at other horror film posters for ideas on font and have found them to use fonts. I think this font connotes well the fact that my film is based in  a forrest as it looks quite tree like. I have added 'The' in small because a lot of popular horror films that have been made have usually have 'the' before the word e.g. The Possesion, The Eye, The Shortcut.
